Subway for All

Invest in the subway to remove barriers to access and improve reliability and service.

  • Make every station ADA compliant, add redundant elevators at key stations to ease maintenance and increase availability, and add other accessible features such as tactile wayfinding to build upon the findings of MTA’s Accessible Station Lab at Jay Street-MetroTech.

  • Reorganize subway lines to reduce the number of times that trains from one line merge with another in order to improve reliability and resiliency.

  • Reopen shuttered station entrances and address the safety and/or security concerns that originally led to their closure in order to increase the area that each station serves effectively. Construct new station entrances where feasible to improve neighborhood access to transit.

  • Reform subway maintenance to improve off-peak service and reduce costs.

  • Ensure that the new OMNY fare card is widely available to everyone, especially hard-to-reach groups (immigrants, unbanked communities, bus riders, etc).
